TXT Format StrandBOM

Generate a Text Format Strand BOM Report

  1. From the Reports section of the Facilities Tab select BOM > TXT:

  2. The BOM Setup dialog box opens:

The 5 red-letter Feature Categories are Strand (locations), HCount, Address, PolePed, and Custom. The features that are calculated for the BOM are shown in blue and everything in blue will be calculated for the BOM. Additional items or information can be added to these features that may not have been included in the strand design, but the user may want to have included in the BOM.

In the example below, we have added a kit of four 12” bolts and nuts for each pole at a price of 5.79 for each bolt and .98 for each nut. These kits of 4 bolts and 4 nuts will be added to the BOM and calculated for each aerial pole that lies within the BOM area. This additional information will be displayed in the BOM report. (See Strand BOM Report on next page.)

If no additional information is entered for any of the Feature Categories, the BOM will be processed using the default models that are displayed in blue, without any additional items or information added to the BOM.

  3. After adding any new model information to be included in the BOM, click OK when completed. A Search Type dialog box opens to offer the choice on how the BOM report is to be processed.

  4. Select the Search Type:
    • By Shape: Prompts the user to identify an element. (For this command to be properly completed, the element being selected must be a polygon.)
    • By Fence: Prompts the user to place points to create a fence. Clicking the reset button after placing points closes the fence and automatically processes the BOM on the fence contents.
    • By Current Map: All features queried into the active file are processed.
    • By Files: Used for DGN persistence only.
Note: If a Fence is used to generate the BOM, there are two commands in the Strand BOM Report dialog that can be used:
      • Mark—this command will place a permanent boundary where the fence had been placed to generate the BOM.
      • ReCalc—this command will re-execute the BOM by fence command and generate a new Report dialog.
  5. The Strand BOM Reports dialog box opens. In the example, there were 10 aerial poles in this BOM area—note the information on the bolt kits in the BOM:

  6. Click Output to save Bill of Materials. The Output allows you to save BOM reports that are generated.
    • Text File: Saves the BOM by strand map name (by default) in the DGN folder of the project.
    • BOM Item, Strand, and House Count: Not available in Spatial persistence mode.

List BOM Addresses

  1. From the Strand BOM report, click Address.
  2. A list of addresses opens for the generated BOM report. Click Output to save the addresses to a text file.
